66-year-old wrestling legend Hulk Hogan is facing an eighth back surgery after a lifetime of physical punishment, but after being welcomed back into the world of WWE last year, Hogan is hoping to recover in time for a grand sendoff match in his hometown of Tampa, Florida, at WrestleMania 36.
Hogan told Arash Markazi of the Los Angeles Times that he wouldn’t be satisfied if the final match of his career occurred outside WWE, and that he’s talked to Vince McMahon about a potential return to the ring. Hogan last wrestled in 2013, in a six-man tag match for what was then called Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.
- WrestleMania XIX pitted the creator of WrestleMania, Mr. McMahon versus the man who captivated audiences at WrestleMania, Hulk Hogan. They collided in a violent Street Fight which was a positive as Hogan was no longer at the peak of his powers and McMahon was never great as a technician in the ring.
- Billed as '20 years in the making,' WWE mogul Mr. McMahon tried to put an end to Hulkamania in a street fight against the legenday Hogan. Despite all the accolades, the championship belts, and the movie career, one thing the Rock had never done is beat prodigal son Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania, and he was ready to pull out all the stops-including an unprecedented three Rock Bottoms-to do it.

“I talked to Vince, and I said I really don’t know if I could live with myself knowing my last match was with TNA. If I can get fixed, I pray I can have one more match. I told Vince, ‘When I get through this back surgery, I’m going to get in the best shape of my life and we’re going to talk about me having one last retirement match.'”

Hogan also has an opponent in mind – though the matchup may not be very feasible. For his sendoff match, Hogan wants a rematch of his 2003 bout with Vince McMahon – now 74 – at WrestleMania XIX. Hogan won that match, a bloody street fight, to avoid being forced to retire.

“I had such a great time with him in the ring at WrestleMania 19. I had no idea what to expect from him, but he’s a great bad guy. His timing is great. I loved wrestling him, but everything he does hurts.”
If Hogan and McMahon were to meet in the ring on April 5th, 2020, the two opponents would have a combined age of 140. That being said, it’s not totally out of the question, at least for Hogan. His style of wrestling later in his career didn’t demand much athleticism, though any bumps he may be forced to take would likely cause some serious pain at his age.
Vince McMahon, meanwhile, has always been a workout nut, and he looked like this on the cover of Muscle & Fitness just a few years ago.
McMahon has recently proven he’s still willing to put his body on the line for the business. In 2017, McMahon allowed himself to be headbutted and bloodied by Kevin Owens for a storyline.
Hogan vs. McMahon in 2020 almost certainly wouldn’t be a good match, but the two legends could certainly play to the crowd for 5 or 10 minutes, and Hogan would get his picturesque exit in his hometown.
